Deroceras agreste

Drawing of a gray field slug

The gray field slug ( Deroceras agreste, formerly Agriolimax agrestis ), also called Monochromatic field slug, is a relatively small Nacktschneckenart. In Central Europe this snail species is relatively rare.

Features

The gray field slug is not always gray in color, but also occurs in various colorations from light gray to yellowish to dark brown, but always without color points. It is therefore also the name Monochrome Ackerschnecke was proposed. Also, this German -language name is not applicable for all specimens, as there may be different stripe-like discoloration within the base color. It is 3-4 cm long

System

The slugs are a family within the slugs, which consists mainly of the genus Deroceras with numerous sub- genres. The gray field slug is placed in the subgenus Chorolimax. However, this system is currently the subject of further investigations. Externally, the gray field slug is difficult to distinguish from other Deroceras species.
