Deron Washington

Deron Washington ( born December 12, 1985 in New Orleans, Louisiana ) is an American professional basketball player, currently without a club he is. He played in college for the Virginia Tech Hokies, the team of Virginia Tech before he was selected with the 59th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons.

High School

Washington, who graduated from the National Christian Academy in Fort Washington, Maryland, is the son of Lionel Washington, a former NFL cornerback and Denise Washington, a former basketball player of the Xavier University of Louisiana.

At the National Academy Washington scored an average of 11.5 as a junior and 65 points per game three overall, although it was absent in nine games because of a broken wrist. Washington finished his senior season, averaging 16.7 points a senior, 10.0 rebounds, three assists and three blocks per game for the NCA.

After his high school graduation at the National Christian Academy, he decided to Virginia Tech, who had not reached the NCAA Tournament since the 1995-1996 season, where he played under new head coach Seth Greenberg.

College

Freshman season

Washington was immediately familiar with the system of the Hokies and started in 30 games in his first season. He finished the season as the second-best single-player field with a throw ratio of 47.6 %, and 4.6 rebounds. Moreover, scored 7.9 points per game, 1.0 assists per game, 1.0 blocks per game and 1.0 steals per game.

The Hokies finished the season with overall record of 16-14 and a score of 8-8 in the ACC. They lost in the first round of the ACC Tournament, still later played with the National Invitational Tournament. They defeated their first opponent, Temple University, with 60-50 and lost afterwards against the University of Memphis in the second round with 83-62.

Sophmore season

In his second season, Washington was fourth- best scorer with 10.5 points per game and third best rebounder with 5.0 rebounds per game.

Its statistically best game was against the University Mount Saint Mary's, where he met eight out of ten litters field, scoring 24 points. He also reached new Karrierebestleistungen with ten rebounds, five blocks and three steals.

The Virginia Tech finished the season with an overall record of 14-16 and 4-12 in the ACC. In the first round of the ACC Tournament, they lost against the Virginia Cavaliers.

Junior season

In his junior season, Washington was the second best scorer on the team with 12.0 points per game and averaging 6.5 rebounds per game. He also came to an average of 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.

The Hokies finished the 2006-2007 season with a record of 22-12 and in the ACC with a record of 10-6. Thus they reached their first NCAA Tournament since the 1995-1996 season participation.

Virginia Tech had to play in the first round against Illinois. The Hokies had eight minutes before closing a 13- point deficit, but won in the end but with 54-52. The Virginia Tech then lost in the second round against the Southern Illinois University with 63-48.

Senior season

Washington finished his senior season with Karrierebestleistungen of 13.5 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per game. The Hokies finished the season with a record of 22-14. The Virginia Tech participated in the NIT and reached the quarterfinals here.
