Derrick Adkins

Derrick Adkins ( born July 2, 1970 in Brooklyn ) is a former American track and field athlete.

The winner of the 400 -meter hurdle races of the World Student Championships in 1991 and 1993 participated for the first time at the World Athletics Championships in 1991 at a major international event in part. He reached the final and it was sixth. According to a seventh place finish at the World Athletics Championships 1993, he made ​​a big leap in performance in 1994. It was the first time U.S. champion in the 400m hurdles and repeated this in 1995. At the World Athletics Championships 1995 in Gothenburg, he won the gold medal just ahead of its major competitors these years: Samuel Matete from Zambia.

The world champion was also the declared favorite at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Only the Africans Matete had meanwhile moved up close to his achievements.
