Derrick Walser

Derrick Walser ( born May 12, 1978 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since the summer of 2011 in the Swiss National League A at the Rapperswil -Jona Lakers contract.

Career

Walser spent the first years of his professional career in the Canadian Junior Football League QMJHL. In the last of his five seasons there he managed to get elected to the All- Star team and to be named the best defender in the league. Without being during a NHL Entry Draft drawn, the Calgary Flames took him under contract and Walser moved to the AHL farm team of the Flames. He also completed several games in the East Coast Hockey League. The defender spent three years in the minor leagues until 2001 with the Saint John Flames and together with his later Berlin teammate, Micki DuPont the Calder Cup, the championship of the American Hockey League, won. After the success in the AHL the links gunman was committed by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The next few years Walser moved repeatedly between the Columbus Blue Jackets and their farm team, the Syracuse Crunch. He did not make it to occupy a regular place in the NHL team. In the summer of 2004, the Canadians moved to the polar bear Berlin from the German Hockey League. In the seasons 2004/ 05 and 2005/ 06 Walser won the German championship with the polar bears. In 2006, the Canadian was elected by the leaders of the DEL most valuable player of the playoffs. He then signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.
