Derwentside

Derwentside was a District in the County of Durham in England, is named after the River Derwent. Administrative headquarters was the town of Consett. Other important towns of the former Districts were Lanchester and Stanley. There was twinned with Werdohl in Germany.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the urban districts Consett and Stanley and the Rural District Lanchester. On 1 April 2009, in addition Derwentside all Dictricts in County Durham were abolished and combined into the Unitary Authority of Durham.
