Deryck Guyler

Deryck Guyler ( born April 29, 1914 in Wallasey, Cheshire, United Kingdom, † October 7, 1999 in Brisbane, Australia) was a British actor who was mainly known from radio and television broadcasts.

Life

The son of a jeweler first worked himself as a jeweler. Then he took theology studies at a Church of England college, but he dropped out after a year.

Among other activities, he worked at the Music Hall in London as a singer, but joined shortly after the outbreak of the Second World War, the Royal Air Force. In 1942, he was released after a war injury and entered instead of the BBC Repertory Company in.

For many years he was a fixture in the radio broadcasts of the BBC. Guyler embodied comic characters, but also sonorous father and uncle figures with great authority. He played from 1946, along with Tommy Handley in the long-lived comedy series ITMA, the crime series Inspector Scott Investigates and eleven years in Eric Barker's Just Fancy.

On television yourself Guyler developed into a popular and busy performer television. He played alongside numerous English comedy size as Eric Sykes (as "PC Korky " in Sykes ), Hattie Jacques and Harry Worth. Especially popular was Guylers representation of the caretaker "Potter " in the school series Please Sir, which became over the years from a peripheral role to the actual lead role. The "Potter " corresponded to a role type, the Guyler often embodied in his career: the friendly and helpful officials, employees, police officer or public servant.

His feature film productions include the Beatles film A Hard Day 's Night ( Yeah Yeah Yeah), in which he played a police officer, the Walt Disney comedy Who has stolen our dinosaur? ( with Peter Ustinov ) and the Carry on ... comedy The totally crazy hospital.

In addition Guyler worked extensively as a spokesperson for advertising and documentaries.

After his retirement Guyler who concerned himself since his conversion to Catholicism in 1945 intensively with the Bible, with his wife to Australia where one of the sons lived retired.
