Des McNulty

Des McNulty ( born July 28, 1952 in Stockport ) is a Scottish politician of English descent and a member of the Labour Party.

Life

McNulty attended St Bede 's School in Manchester and then studied social sciences at the University of York. He then moved to Glasgow University to study politics. Between 1978 and 1991, McNulty was then as a sociology lecturer at Glasgow College of Technology (now Glasgow Caledonian University ) worked. Subsequently, he was appointed deputy director of the Institute for Social Sciences. Between 1997 and 1999 he was Head of the Department for the strategic direction of the University. McNulty is married and father of three. Among other things, he is a member of the GMB union.

First political experiences collected McNulty as a member of the District Council of Strathclyde, where he served between 1990 and 1996. From 1995 to 1999 he was then a member of the city council of Glasgow. In the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 McNulty first came to elections at the national level. He applied for the direct mandate of the constituency Clydebank and Milngavie and was able to win by a wide margin against the SNP candidate. In November 2002, he was appointed Deputy Secretary of State for Social Justice, solving his party colleague Margaret Curran from. In the parliamentary elections in 2003 and 2007, he defended his position. In November 2006, McNulty was appointed Deputy Secretary of State for the Church Body. Johann Lamont previously served in this position. In the shadow cabinet of the Labour Party in November 2007, he was assigned as Secretary of State for Transport.
