Des Moines Capitols

The Des Moines Capitols were an American ice hockey franchise in the International Hockey League from Des Moines, Iowa. The venue of the Capitol was the Oak Creek Ice Arena.

History

The Des Moines Oak Leafs of the International Hockey League were bought in 1972 by Crawford C. Hubbell and renamed Des Moines Capitols. After the team in their first season in third place of the South Division, they won in the 1973/74 season with 96 points first, the Fred A. Huber Trophy as the winner of the regular season, before then, in the final of the Turner Cup in the Best - of-seven series 4-2 victories the Saginaw Gears beat. The following year, the team was unable to build on this success and the franchise was disbanded following the 1974/75 season.
