Desert Island Discs

Desert discs Iceland is the title of a weekly cultural program of the BBC. It was first recorded on 27 January 1942 in the bomb- damaged Maida Vale studio and broadcast two days later for the British forces in the Forces programs by 20 clock. Desert Iceland discs making it one of the longest running radio programs in the world. Concept

History

The first host of the show was its inventor Roy Plomley, an actor and announcer. He proposed the concept of 1941, the BBC, and it was assumed by Leslie Perowne. Production was suspended from 1946 to 1951. Since then, the show was broadcast in the Home Service, and the guests were henceforth also want a luxury item and a book. Since September 1967, the mission in the then newly founded Radio 4 is heard. Plomley hosted a total of 1791 episodes of the series.

1985 after Plomleys death, first took over Michael Parkinson moderation from March 1988 until August 2006, Sue Lawley through the show. Her successor Kirsty Young was named.

The first guest of the show was the comedian Vic Oliver, and he wished Chopin's Revolutionary Etude " Poland is not yet lost " No. 12 in C minor, played by Alfred Cortot, at this time the first piece that wanted to hear every guest.
