Desmond Child

Desmond Child, actually John Charles Barrett ( born October 28, 1953 in Gainsville, Florida ) is an American composer and producer.

Life

Desmond Child was born in Gainesville, Florida and grew up in Miami, where his Cuban mother, Elena Casals, who taught him early on to play the piano. In high school, Child founded his first band. He studied music at the Dade Community College in Miami. He then continued his studies in New York and ended it with a degree from the University of composition and theory of harmony. In 2010 he finished off an exclusive publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group.

Child as a musician

He founded in 1977 together with Myriam Valle, Maria Vidal (now Maria Elena Fernandez -Vidal ), and Diana Grasselli the band Rouge, with whom he recorded two albums for Capitol Records ( Desmond Child & Rouge and Runners in the Night ), both appeared in 1979. On the album Desmond Child & Rouge there was the song The Fight, which he had co-written with Paul Stanley, frontman of the band KISS. The album received positive reviews, but did not reach significant sales figures. However, on the title Our ​​Love Is Insane was included, it at least number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 managed. The fact that the follow-up album, Runners in the Night, no sales success figured meant that Child dissolved the band in 1980.

Child composed together with Stanley and producer Vini Poncia 1979 hit Kiss I Was Made for Lovin 'You and focused on the resolution of his band out for other musicians and bands to write songs, to compose and produce. Paul Stanley recommended Child continues to Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, their first big hit, You Give Love a Bad Name attributed to him.

To date, he has composed well over four hundred songs, many of which were big hits. He wrote, among other pieces for Cher, Robbie Williams, Iggy Pop, Bonnie Tyler, Michael Bolton, Joan Jett, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Hanson, Ricky Martin, The Rasmus, Jennifer Rush, Katy Perry and Tokio Hotel.

In 1991, Desmond Child, the solo album Discipline, on which he sang the duet obsession with his former colleague from Rouge times, Maria Vidal, and Myriam Valle was involved as a background singer on the recording of the album. In addition to Discipline its own version of the title The Price of Lovin 'You was included by the Bonfire German group had published in 1989 on their album Point Blank. For Child Discipline hired many well-known musicians who supported him in the songwriting and in the recordings. Three titles he wrote with Diane Warren, obsession with Burt Bacharach. Among the musicians on Discipline included, among other things, Richie Sambora, Steve Lukather, Tico Torres, Vivian Campbell, Joan Jett and Tony Levin.

Two singles were released, namely Love on a Rooftop ( number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100) and You're The Story of My Life ( number 74 on the Billboard Hot 100). Both singles were already a week after their appearance again off the charts. The album reached # 19 in the Billboard adult contemporary charts, but was a financial flop Discipline and Child has released since then no longer own recordings.
