Desna Raion
The Desna Raion (Ukrainian Деснянський район / Desnjanskyj rayon; Russian Деснянский район / Desnjanski raion ) is one of ten counties ( Rajone ) the city of Kiev, capital of Ukraine. It lies in the north- eastern part of the city on the left Dneprufer and is equipped with 356 374 inhabitants the most populous and with an area of about 148 km ², the second largest administrative district of Kiev.
The name derives from the river Desna, which flows north of the district in the Dnepr. The Rajon was created in late 1987.
The Desna Raion mainly consists of two neighborhoods, Trojeschtschyna and Lissowyj, and is predominantly residential settlement. In fact, there is only a small industrial estate on the edge of Dnipro Raion. This explains why the district has the lowest number of registered business entities under Kiev Rajonen. Similar to satellite towns of Desna Raion therefore has very few commercial or industrial enterprises and has few retail businesses that serve the supply of local residents. However, it differs from satellite towns, as it forms an official part of the city.
