Desnogorsk
Desnogorsk (Russian Десногорск ) is a town in Smolensk Oblast (Russia) with 29,677 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).
Geography
The city is located in the south of Smolensk heights about 150 km southeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Smolensk on the right bank of the Desna, a left tributary of the Dnieper. The river is dammed, 42 km ² Desnogorsker reservoir.
Desnogorsk the Oblast is administratively subordinated directly.
A few kilometers south leads past the A101 trunk road from Moscow to Belarus border to the city.
History
Desnogorsk originated in the 1960s in connection with the construction of three kilometers away Smolensk nuclear power plant, received on 26 February 1974 status of urban-type settlement and 1989, the city law.
