DeSoto Firesweep

The DeSoto sweep was a car manufactured by Chrysler, which was offered under the car brand DeSoto 1957-1959.

The Firesweep resembled the other DeSoto models of 1957. His most distinguishing feature was the substantial similarity with the competing, small Dodge models, which had the same base as the Firesweep. The Firesweep had however DeSoto lettering on the tail fins, the front-end ( front of the firewall ) was based on the Dodge Coronet. The easiest one recognized the relationship to the headlights, the hard chrome " eyebrows " were typical of Dodge. The grille of the Firesweep was similar to other contemporary DeSoto models.

The vehicle had room for 6 people. It was available as 4-door sedan, 5 - door station wagon, 2 -door coupe and 2-door convertible. Depending Body weighed the Firesweep between 1660 kg and 1674 kg. Chrysler 360s V8 engine ( 5791 cc ) overhead valve -fired the Firesweep and made 295 bhp (217 kW) at 4600 rpm. The standard- a manual three-speed transmission, but it was also a Torqueflite automatic transmission. Most 1959 Firesweep were equipped with automatic transmission.

The basic price of Firesweep was $ 1957 3169 and two-tone paint was standard. The facilities also included power steering, power brakes, a timer on the dashboard, radio with push buttons and white wall tires.

In the first production year 1957, the most Firesweep were sold. Declining production quality at DeSoto and higher market pressure led to the discontinuation of Firesweep end of 1959. 1959 Firesweep only bear the inscription " DeSoto ".
