Desperadoes Steel Orchestra

The Desperadoes Steel Orchestra, also Despers, is a steel band from Laventille to Port of Spain in Trinidad.

Formation and development

The Desperadoes Steel Orchestra emerged in the early 1950s from the merger of three steel bands in Laventille. The name of the group goes to the movie Desperadoes - back riot of outlaws with Glenn Ford. Despers has been conducted since 1961 to 1985 by Charles Rudolph. Charles invited various Pan - builders to work with him to improve the sound of the steel band. Wallace Austin, Lincoln Noel and Bertie Marshall made ​​for the distinctive sound of Despers.

The orchestra has worldwide appearances, including at the Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, or with star tenor Luciano Pavarotti.
