Dessauer Ufer

The warehouse G is a 1903 -built warehouse on Dessauer Ufer (now Dessauer Straße ) in Hamburg's Little Grasbrookhafen. It is in the free port on the inland port " Saalehafen ". The warehouse has three floors and is divided by fire walls into eight sections. For each section of agricultural and water side ever heard of an outdoor lift with wind cottage.

The 1988 is a listed warehouse G is a building, which is hardly available in Hamburg. It documents the historical form of storage outside the warehouse district with its typical for that time brick architecture.

Since 1997, goods are transshipped in the building again. As a free port warehouse it is used among other things to the handling of cargo.

The warehouse G as a sub-camp

During the 2nd World War, the building as a satellite camp " Dessauer Ufer " of Neuengamme concentration camp was used to house forced laborers. From July to September 1944, up to 1,500 Jewish women were housed therein that had to do cleanup work in refineries and other factories. In October 1944 1.500 male prisoners came to the satellite camp who had to work on the track and Panzergrabenbau as well as cleanup. After heavy bombing this group was moved to February 1945 after Fuhlsbiittel. In early April 1945, the camp was disbanded and taken the inmates in the concentration camp Bergen- Belsen. A plaque commemorates this part of the history of the building.
