Detlef Thorith

Detlef Thorith ( born September 27, 1942 in Berlin ) is a German track and field athlete and Olympian, who - starting for the GDR - at the European Championships in 1966 the gold medal in discus throw won (invalid - 55.90 - invalid - 57.42 m - invalid - 54.88 ).

On August 11, 1966 Detlef Thorith threw 61.30 meters wide, surpassing the first German discus thrower, the 60 -meter mark. 1967, 1970 and 1972 he was East German champion. In 1972 he presented in Berlin with 64.82 meters on his fourth GDR record and his personal best. Two weeks later, he also started at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972 and finished in sixth place ( 61.74 to 62.42 m - 61.06 - invalid - 59.88 - invalid).

Detlef Thorith belonged to the SC Dynamo Berlin. In his playing days he was 1.90 meters tall and weighed 105 kg.
