Detox
Under detoxification (Latin / Greek: detoxification ) is defined as:
- The physiological metabolism of toxic substances via the liver and kidneys in the biotransformation. Are these detoxification processes is disturbed, there is a poisoning of the body with metabolic waste products, eg as hepatic coma or uremia; see also: Dialysis
- Within cells of those metabolic pathways that bring about the degradation of harmful foreign substances ( xenobiotics )
- With addictions that phase in which a psychotropic substance: is omitted or stopped suddenly or slowly, see withdrawal of psychotropic substances, opioid withdrawal; ( colloquially drug, drug) withdrawal syndrome
- In alternative medicine is spoken of detoxification in connection with the purification of the body
