Detroit Olympics

The Detroit Olympics were an American ice hockey franchise of the Canadian Professional Hockey League and later the International Hockey League from Detroit, Michigan. The venue of the Olympics was the Detroit Olympia.

History

The team played from 1927 to 1929 in the Canadian Professional Hockey League and from 1929 to 1936 in the International Hockey League. In 1928 the team finished second in the Canadian Professional Hockey League, a year later they closed the regular season on top of the first rank, but the play-offs won the Windsor Bulldogs. After that, the franchise neugründeten the International Hockey League joined. The first years in the IHL went for the team disappointing, the Olympics occupied mostly midfield places, the season 1932/33, ended the franchise last. The ensuing season Detroit won the regular season, but failed in the play- offs. In the 1934/35 season, the team from Detroit both the regular season and the playoffs could finish as a winner for the first time and won the Calder Cup. In the following season the team again managed to win the Calder Cup, the Olympics were before the end of the season to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, relocated and renamed the Pittsburgh Hornets.
