Dettum

Dettum is a municipality in the district of Wolfenbüttel, in Lower Saxony, ( Germany ). Dettum is a member municipality of the velvet municipality Sickte.

Community structure

The community Dettum consists of the four villages

  • Dettum, with about 1,000 inhabitants, the largest city in the municipality
  • Mönchevahlberg, about 210 inhabitants
  • Mönchevahlberg - sugar factory
  • Weferlingen, about 115 inhabitants.

History

Dettum was settled very early, which is evidenced by archaeological finds, large triangular bronze daggers from the early Bronze Age. Dettum was first mentioned in 1226 as Thitene and 1280 as Dettene. The Church of St. John - Baptist was first mentioned in 1300. Already in the late Middle Ages Dettum had significance as it was on a highway.

The early place had a noble estate, which belonged to Aegidienkloster in Braunschweig and was released in 1542. There were between Hachum and Dettum a place Honroth, from a noble family of the same name originated.

1800 hosted Dettum a Schriftsassenhof, a church with parish and Pfarrwitwenhaus that Opferei, three arable farms, eight Halbspännerhöfe, 32 Kothöfe and three Brink seat Creating with 385 inhabitants.

From 1773 to 1797 Hermann Braess lived as a Protestant pastor in Dettum; Here he founded the newspaper in 1786 for cities, towns and villages, for the first time also included letters to the editor.

Sights and culture

The church contains a cross with a 127 cm high corpus, which is dated to around 1225 to 1230 and may have been created as a triumph of the cross.

The windmill in Dettum is a monument that saved the citizens Dettums. In the wind mill the grain the farmers from Dettum, Mönchevahlberg and Weferlingen was ground since 1862. 1976 restored the village community, this mill and get them.

One of the clubs is the MTV Dettum.

Economy and infrastructure

Today, there are Dettum a kindergarten, a primary school, an outdoor pool and a village hall.
