Dettwiller

Dettwiller ( German Dettweiler ) is a French town with 2699 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. It is located in the canton of Saverne, away 36 km from Strasbourg. The place is a railway station on the Paris- Strasbourg and is crossed by the A4 motorway and the Canal de la Marne au Rhin.

Footwear industry

Around 1810, a spinning and weaving mill in the castle with 180 employees have been established. In 1830 launched Mr. Roth, a shoemaker, making shoes. From 1870 onwards, other companies were founded. Before the Second World War dealt a dozen factories around 900 people. A severe economic crisis between 1954 and 1960 caused the closure of many factories.

1960 Adolf Dassler has taken up residence in the old factory and Levy founded Adidas France. He started with about 20 people, and took over gradually more production plants and employed in the 80s about 500 people. At that time the company employed Sioux, another shoe factory, about 150 people.
