Deutsch-Arabische Gesellschaft

The German - Arab Society eV ( DAG ) is a non-profit organization. It was founded in 1966 in Würzburg, headquarters and office of the association are located in Berlin.

Objectives

The aim of the German - Arab society is the continuous development of the German -Arab friendship and deepening economic, political and cultural relations between Germany and the Arab world.

According to the statutes of the association pursues the objectives,

  • To promote the German -Arab Friendship;
  • Citizens of Arab countries and the Federal Republic of Germany adequately and objectively on the both sides of interest problems to teach issues and events;
  • To promote relations in the fields of culture, science and research and deepen;
  • The political and economic relations, here in particular to support the projects of development aid between the Arab countries and the Federal Republic of Germany and intensify;
  • The care of people living in the Federal Republic of Arabs;
  • Support for vulnerable people, especially in the Arab states.

Structures and organs

President of the DAG worked from 1981 to 1991 and from 1993 until his death in 2003, the former Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance Jürgen Möllemann. 2004, the former Bavarian Economics Minister Otto Wiesheu was elected to succeed Möllemanns. In March 2007 Wiesheu resigned from office after a large majority of the members of a target of a statute change him - that would have led to a transformation of the DAG - not approved. The author and publisher Prof. Dr. Peter Scholl- Latour was unanimously elected to succeed him as President of the DAG; he had been appointed to the Advisory Board of the German - Arab Society in 1986. Scholl- Latour was confirmed by the General Assembly and Annual election as president in December 2008.

Vice President of the DAG are currently (as of 2013), among others the entrepreneur Dr. Ernst J. Trapp and the TV journalist Ulrich Kienzle. The Office of the Secretary has retired Ministerial Harald Moritz Bock held. Treasurer of the DAG is the attorney and tax advisor Dr. Oliver Klein (PwC ). Furthermore, as Vice -Chairmen, the Executive Board of longtime head of the Mission of Palestine in the Nordic countries Abdul Rahman Alawi, former Ambassador Dr. Gerhard Fulda, the entrepreneur Dr. Bassam Helou and Ali Memari Fard, Alexander Krah, Sinan Carikci and Ibrahim El Zayyat to. Honorary President of the DAG is since October 2007, His Royal Highness Prince Faisal ibn Abdul Majeed Al Saud of Saudi Arabia.

Chairman of the Advisory Board since April 2010, the MEP Alexandra Thein MEP. The Advisory Board in addition to leading representatives of business, politics, journalism and public figures in Berlin accredited heads of mission ( ambassadors ) of the Arab states of Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Iraq, Yemen, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania, Oman, Palestinian Territories, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates on. Furthermore, currently find (as of 2010 ) from a total of 45 members of the Advisory Board, among others Egon Jüttner MP and Wolfgang Kubicki Landtag.
