Deutsche Bank Building
The German Bank Building or 130 Liberty Street was a high-rise in Manhattan, New York City.
It was located between the Alabany Street and Liberty Street across from the World Trade Center. The 172 meter high building was designed by the architectural firm of Shreve, Lamb and Harmon, known primarily by the Empire State Building, designed and built in 1974 as Bankers Trust Plaza. In 1998 it acquired the German bank.
11 September 2001 and its consequences
The collapse of the south tower of the World Trade Center, opposite during the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001 destroyed parts of the façade over 24 floors and the entire interior of the building. Several small fires could be deleted. In the following months, the facade was covered with a net and started repair work, but these were abandoned due to the scale of the destruction.
In September 2005, human remains were found on the roof, in March 2006 there were construction workers who liberated the building of toxic waste, also several pieces of bone. This prompted members of the victims to further search for human remains in cooperation with forensic. Between the 7th and the 14th April of the same year it was discovered more than 300 human bone fragments in the gravel of the roof.
The building was finally demolished after a long insurance dispute in phases. This work was completed in January 2011. This makes it the second highest demolished building in New York after the Singer Building.
During the demolition phase took place on August 18, 2007 it came to a major fire on the 17th floor of the building, in its fight against two firefighters lost their lives.
Future
In place of the German Bank Building, the 226m high 130 Liberty Street was to be built as a new headquarters of JPMorgan Chase Group according to plans by Kohn Pedersen Fox. The project has not been realized since JPMorgan Chase acquired the Bear Stearns headquarters, 383 Madison Avenue, in the wake of the financial crisis in 2007.
The American Deutsche Bank's head office is located since the terrorist attacks of 2001 in the building at 60 Wall Street.
