The German Bible Society (DBG ) is a church -profit public foundation that works verlegerisch bible and missionary.

History

In 1965 independent regional Bible societies combined to form the Evangelical Bible work. This resulted in 1981, the Bible Society of the merger with the German Bible Foundation, the result of a merger of Württemberg Bible Institute in Stuttgart, the oldest and largest German Bible Institute, and the smaller Cansteinsche Bible Institute in Westphalia, which hitherto perceived themselves in. In 1975, the duties of a Bible publishing for Germany, was born. By and by 1991, the last of the former GDR, most other German Bible Societies joined the community project.

Seat of the DBG is the Bible house of the former privileged Württemberg Bible Institute, now the local department Württemberg Bible Society in Stuttgart- Möhringen. The story goes thus historically to the year 1812 back, which is why the German Bible Society in 2012 is celebrating its 200th anniversary.

Publishing program

As a publisher, the DBG has more than 700 books and other media in the program, of which 300 editions of the Bible. Each year the Bible Society distributed more than 400,000 Bibles, especially the Bible translations of the Bible by Martin Luther and the modern Good News Bible. The German Bible Society publishes the internationally accepted basic texts for the translation of the Bible: Biblia Hebraica the Stuttgartensia and the Novum Testamentum Grace and the Greek New Testament. The program also includes children's Bibles, computer Bibles, and other media around the book of books.

Available from Internet also is the scientific Bible dictionary on the Internet ( WiBiLex ), a document created by specialist scientists Bible dictionary.

Bible Mission

The promotion of the biblical mission is the second essential task that the German Bible Society has adopted in its statutes. The aim of the foundation is mainly make people to the Bible accessible. Has this been seen in the past primarily as a contract for Bible distribution, it is the club now important to develop the people in Germany new approaches to the Bible. This is sought by 19 regional centers Bible Bible Societies.

Along with 137 other Bible societies around the world, the DBG has made the translation, publication and dissemination of the Holy Scriptures to the task. It is envisaged that the Bible is all people in their mother tongue at an affordable price. Since 1975, the German Bible Society is supporting relevant projects in poorer countries by donations from Germany by the action of World Bible help.

Organization

The bodies of the Foundation are the General Assembly, the Board and the management. The principles and guidelines for the work of the German Bible Society establishes the General Assembly. Members of the Assembly are representatives of 23 regional Bible Societies, 14 free churches and Christian works as well as individuals.

The Board of Directors is responsible for the fulfillment of the tasks of the foundation and supervises the work of the German Bible Society. Board members are the chairman, two deputy chairmen and up to 16 other members. Chairman of the Board is John Frederick, the former bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria (2012 ).

The Management Board is the executive body of the Foundation. Pastor Klaus storm is Secretary General of the German Bible Society. He followed in January 2010, Secretary-General Jan- A. Buehner, who held the office since 1997. For management belongs next Secretary General Storm also the Commercial Director Felix Breidenstein.

The German Bible Society is a member of Community Missionary Services of the EKD.

Together with the Catholic Biblical Association is the DBG behind the ecumenical journey service Biblical Holidays in Stuttgart, the offering study tours to the lands of the Bible to sites in Christendom and in the religious world.
