Deutsche Filmakademie

The German Film Academy eV was founded in Berlin in 2003. You should offer the filmmakers a discussion forum and want the prestige of the German film support: through publications, presentations, regular discussion meetings and promoting the teaching subject in film schools. Since 2005, the winners of the German Film Prize Lola are elected by the members of the German Film Academy.

The German Film Academy sees itself as an independent organization and is financed by membership fees of the ordinary members, honorary members, sustaining members and members of the Circle of Friends. Ordinary members are in addition to the founding members further recommended by at least two ordinary members filmmakers who have applied for membership and were received. All winners of the German Film Prize will automatically enrolled by their own declaration. Honorary members are appointed for their services for the German film to members of the German Film Academy. Sustaining members are companies and legal persons from the film industry. Friends are other filmmakers who want to support the work of the association. In 2012, the Academy has over 1300 members.

First president of the German Film Academy were Senta Berger and Günter Rohrbach. In 2010, full- elected as their successors Iris Berben and Bruno. As of 2013, exerts Iris Berben by the Office of its own.

In 2008, the Academy has the Internet range 24 - called The Knowledge Portal of the German Film Academy to life. The portal provides an insight into the creative process of a cinema film and would like to make the work of individual filmmakers transparent and accountable. In spring 2011, the project Filmmakers in Prison was started.

The German Film Academy eV is not to be confused with the existing of 1938-1944 German Film Academy Babelsberg or the two existing schools German Film and Television Academy in Berlin and the Film Academy Baden- Wuerttemberg.
