Deutsche Rennsport-Meisterschaft
The German Racing Championship or shortly DRM was from 1972 to 1985, the most important German motor racing series. Its predecessor was the existing 1960-1971 German Automobile Circuit Championship ( GUT ), as the successor applies the DTM ( German Touring Car Championship from 2000 to 1996 and the German Touring Car Masters ).
In the first years of the DRM modified touring cars were used according to FIA Group 2 rules.
There were separate races in two divisions:
- Large Division 1 to 4000 cm ³, typically with BMW 3.0 CSL, Ford Capri RS 2600 Porsche RSR 911S/Carrera
- Small Division 2 to 2000 cm ³, typically with Ford Escort, BMW 2002
In the first five years each Ford drivers have won the DRM songs, with Hans -Joachim Stuck in his only year at the Cologne mark made the beginning. Even Formula 1 drivers like Rolf Stommelen and Jochen Mass attended occasionally. Other notable pilots were about Waltraud Odenthal on her ex- works Ford Capri RS or Walter Röhrl on Opel Kadett GT / E.
Starting in 1977, touring cars were authorized under rules of the FIA Group 5 that had been modified significantly stronger, sweeping fender flares and spoilers had and were usually equipped with turbo engines, which had to have a smaller by a factor of 1.4 displacement.
- Large Division 1 to 4000 cm ³, typically Porsche 935, Ford Capri Turbo
- Small Division 2 to 2000 cm ³, typically with Ford Escort, BMW 320
These spectacular, but also expensive race cars were used until 1982, but because of the cost usually only single digit number, where amateurs with cheaper Saugmotortypen filled up the fields and exports its own rating.
In 1982 the FIA introduced a new set of rules. The DRM has now been advertised as a German sports car championship for sports cars in the FIA Group -C, but they were hardly available so had to improvise with tags.
Since 2005, the Automobile Club of Germany acknowledges the German Racing Championship as part of the AVD Oldtimer Grand Prix with the "Revival German Racing Championship ". It is the AVD succeeded in bringing many original cars at the start.
