Deutscher Bridge-Verband

The German Bridge Federation ( DBV ) is the trade association for the bridge players and bridge clubs in Germany. It was founded in 1949. It comprises 14 regional federations with about 28 000 members in approximately 470 clubs. The largest concentration is in North Rhine -Westphalia and Bremen. With the creation of teaching material and the pre- contact to the public DBV is on the way to make Bridge popular in Germany. His official news sheet is the bridge Magazine.

Purpose of the association is, among other things:

In particular, the Women's National Team is international for years very successfully (multiple World and European Champion).

In addition to the organized game Bridge is also played in private circles and in other game circles. Although Bridge in Germany has not the awareness that it has in many other countries of the world, nevertheless, estimates at about 500,000 active players in Germany.

In Germany the period of expansion of Bridge fell into the rule of the National Socialists, the " un-German " game and the newly formed Bridge Association the disabled. 1934 exist in the DBV 43 groups ( clubs ), but were decimated by the exclusion of Jewish members. 1939-1949 then lose the traces of the German bridge events in the turmoil of World War II, so that one must assume that in this period no organized Bridge in Germany existed.
