Deutscher Frauenring

The German woman ring eV ( DFR ) is an organization of women's associations who wants to represent the interests of women in all spheres of public life. Since its foundation in 1949, he is committed to achieving equality of women and the equal participation of women and men in German society. It is independent, non-partisan and non-denominational and one of the largest women's organizations active nationwide.

History

The German woman ring was established at a meeting from 7 to 10 October 1949 in Bad Pyrmont. On 8 October 1949, the first woman president Theanolte Bähnisch was elected an assembly of delegates. The German woman ring eV merged from partisan and non-denominational women's organizations of the three Western occupation zones and Berlin (West). The woman ring establishing a link to the federal government on German Women's Associations of Imperial and Weimar period. Since 1951, Ms. Ring is a member of the International Council of Women. He does today, along with several other women's organizations, a part of the Federation of German Women.

Organisation and activities

The German woman ring is active in local rings in around 60 cities in Germany, and at the level of the national associations and the Federal Association. At the creation of the CEDAW Alternative Report ( Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women), the association has cooperated. The DFR is committed to issues such as reconciliation of work and family life, gender equality, violence against women, role stereotypes, gender-sensitive health policies, as well as against the genital mutilation of young women and girls.
