Deutzer Friedhof

The Deutz cemetery (actually New Deutz cemetery) is an urban cemetery in the right-bank district of Cologne Poll. The cemetery is approximately 25.5 acres in size and is located between the Rolshover Kirchweg, Am Grauenstein, the A559, as well as a leading from the nearby south bridge rail freight route. The light rail station Raiffeisen road is walking distance from the main entrance of the cemetery on Rolshover Kirchweg.

The name derives from the adjacent cemetery is the Deutz district, for whose needs the burial site was originally created. The Deutz cemetery was opened on 9 April 1896, served with his equipment as a replacement for the soon shut down ( until today but as a public park preserved ) Old Deutz municipal cemetery at the Deutz- Kalker road. This was in 1822 and served time of its existence as an independent non-denominational burial place of the city Deutz that fell in 1888 in Cologne.

Today, the cemetery Deutz - typical of the city of Cologne cemeteries - a park-like plant with dense tree planting dar. In the entrance area on Rolshover Kirchweg there are several elaborate family graves from the early days of the cemetery. Worth mentioning is also the grave of Cologne Chemical chemistry professor and Nobel Laureate Kurt Alder at the cemetery wall just to the right of the main entrance.
