Dev Anand

Dev Anand (Hindi: देव आनंद Dev Ānand; born September 26, 1923 in Gurdaspur, Punjab, † December 3, 2011 in London, real name: Devdutt Anand Pishorimal ) was an Indian actor, director and producer.

Life

He made his film debut in 1946. A first success came in 1948 at Bombay Talkies Ziddi with. In the 1950s he played under Subodh Mukherjee and Guru Dutt and presented itself as a versatile performer out of the romantic lovers but also can embody comic hero or sleazy characters. In the Film Guide (1965 ), the first Indian-American co-production, he believes in the title role with empathetic game.

Starting in 1970, Dev Anand led increasingly self- directed and also appeared mostly in his own films as an actor on. His first film was directed by Prem Pujari. He had his own production company, Navketan International Films in 1949

Dev Anand has won numerous film awards, including two Filmfare Awards as an actor, the Oscars of the Hindi film, 1958 for Kala Pani and 1966 for Guide. In 1993 he received the Filmfare Award for his life's work. In 2003 he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Since 2001 he is also winner of the Padma Bhushan.

Dev Anand was one along with Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor to the big stars of Bollywood cinema of the 1940s and 1950s. He played in five decades in over 100 films lead roles and was also 80 years old still active in the film industry operates. Anand was married to the actress Kalpana Kartik since 1954. His brothers Vijay and Chetan Anand were also active in the movie business; his sister Sheel Kanta is the mother of Shekhar Kapur.
