Devecey

Devecey is a municipality with 1345 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté. It is the administrative seat of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Val de la Dame Blanche.

Geography

Devecey is located at 230 m, about 10 km north of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on the southern edge of the Talniederung Ognon opposite Voray -sur- l'Ognon, at the northern foot of the ridge of the Grande Côte in the extreme northwest of the Doubs.

The area of ​​3.78 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Ognon Valley. The main part of the territory occupied by the valley south of the Ognon. It is drained by the village stream to Ognon, but not enough of communal land to the river. The main settlement area is located on the slightly elevated high terraces, consisting of glacial river deposits. To the south, the municipality's area extends over a steep slope up to the level of Châtillon -le- Duc with the Forêt de Chailluz, which represents the western continuation of the ridge of the Grande Côte. History

Is first mentioned in a Devecey Goods Classification of the monastery of Saint- Vincent in Besançon. During the Middle Ages, the village was under the rule of the monastery. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.
