Development studies

Underdevelopment research the scientific study of the causes, aspects, characteristics and consequences of development and underdevelopment must be understood. With the benefit resulting from their insights a contribution to understanding the problems of developing countries and their solution is to be done. Since development has numerous (geographical, economic, political, social, cultural and environmental ) dimensions, also developing research should ideally be interdisciplinary. It extends across the university fields of economics, social sciences, cultural sciences and natural sciences.

International umbrella organizations

Worldwide, there are several organizations involved in the development of research:

  • Europe: European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes ( EADI )
  • Latin America: Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales ( CLACSO )
  • Asia: Asian Political and International Studies Association ( Apisa )
  • Africa: Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa ( CODESRIA ) and Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa ( OSSREA )
  • Arab Countries: Arab Institutes and Centres for Economic and Social Development Research ( AICARDES )

These associations together form the Inter- regional Coordinating Committee of Development Associations ( ICCDA ).
