Devo

Devo is a New Wave band from the USA, which was founded in 1972 in Akron, Ohio. Mark Mothersbaugh is the main singer. The name is derived from the principle of "de- evolution" - the band claims that humanity is subject to evolution, but rather returned develop over time.

History

Was inspired the band, including through the creationist pamphlet Jocko Homo Heaven Bound by BH Shadduck (1924 ), which is processed in the song Jocko Homo and also the template for " Devolutionary Oath" was. Also the below mentioned book by Oscar Kiss Maerth that describes the evolutionary "descent" of mankind, was formative for the band. The refrain "Are We Not Men - We Are Devo " alludes to a scene in the movie The Island of Dr. Moreau.

For the cover of the CD Now It Can Be Told the cover of the American edition of the book was The beginning was the end of Oscar Kiss Maerth (see references ) is used. According Devo is located already in a third world war, but in which there is no danger of nuclear weapons, but of human thought and action. The weapons include passengers who want to save money and take advantage of low-cost airlines or tourists who visit amusement parks.

Sometimes joined the band - in a completely different outfit - as the opening act on their own. It always took a while, until the audience recognized the band.

In 1991, the band broke by his own admission, however, appeared twice at the legendary Lollapalooza Festival in 1996 and 1997. Also in 1996, she released a computer game called Adventures of the Smart Patrol with its own soundtrack. In 2001, the band has come together under the new name The Wipeouters and released an album. The song Watch Us Work It 2007 used in a DELL advertising campaign, however, was re-released under the name Devo as a single.

Devo is mostly on the road, mostly in the U.S., where the group has a large following since 1996. Only rarely Devo played ( or The Wipeouters ) concerts in Europe or Asia (Tokyo). 2007 was carried out again after a long abstinence on European stages a tour, with performances in Spain, the UK and Italy. In 2008 there were again toured with concerts in Spain, France, USA and Japan.

In July 2010, the CD Something For Everybody was delivered in Germany.

On 24 June 2013, the ex- drummer Alan Myers died 58- year stomach cancer. Guitarist Bob Casale died on February 17, 2014 of heart failure.
