As Debarking (. V. engl to bark ' bark '; Germanized also Entbellen ) is called in dogs the surgery on the vocal apparatus to suppress the barking, or at least to change the pitch, and reduce the volume. Such methods are usually applied to strong and a lot of barking dogs, as this is disruptive or of neighbors perceived by owners as a disturbance of the peace. These surgical procedures are prohibited under the Animal Welfare Act ( Germany ) in Germany and in most other countries.

Before such measures are implemented, it must be remembered that the barking is a normal behavior of the dog, the various triggers such as fear, joy, pain, defense ( " protective instinct" ) or aggression can have. Most cases of increased barking can be treated through education, the corresponding trigger must be identified. Where necessary, a behavioral therapy specialized veterinarian or an experienced therapist with this problem ( dog school ) should be consulted.

There are a number of commercial tools for the treatment of excessive barking. You have acoustic sensors to detect the barking and then send ultrasonic waves or contact irritants (on lemongrass base ) or electrical stimuli free. Collars, release the electrical stimuli are also banned in Germany since 2006.
