A burnout is a fabric that is patterned in burnout.

Production

The process is similar to silkscreen. However, here an etching paste is applied instead of color, the pieces of tissue destroyed by etching. This process is referred to as burn.

The base fabric is generally mixed for at least two different fibrous materials. A fibrous material (usually synthetic, such as polyester ) is not damaged by the etching paste. The other (mostly cellulosic such as cotton, linen, viscose) is removed during etching. Therefore arises at the place burned a hole, but a transparent area.

In addition to fabrics and knitted fabrics can be burned. Prerequisite here is that two different materials to be processed.

Use

The so- patterned fabrics are used mainly in the field of window decoration. They often fall into the category of so-called inbetween materials, ie decorative fabrics that are more transparent than curtains, but denser than Stores.

Properties

Through the processing of two different fiber materials but also result drawbacks. The cellulosic fibers may shrink in the wash, and tend to wrinkle. The synthetic fibers, however, are dimensionally stable and generally less wrinkle- prone. The fabric running in the washing depends on the patterning may unevenly one, which can lead to an unattractive picture.

A technical innovation makes for some years also possible burnout, which are fully synthetic. You do not need cellulosic fibers more. There are used two different polyester fibers. Therefore, flame retardant burnout are now possible. They also do not have the above-mentioned unfavorable care properties.
