History

The Dewey County was formed in 1892 as an original county of free territory. It was named after its former status as d county. The County ( Oklahoma Land Run ) was settled by white settlers during the third official land ownership acquisition of 19 April 1892. During the same year, the first post office was opened. It was named after Admiral George Dewey.
