Dez Cadena

Dennis (Dec ) Paul Cadena ( born June 2, 1961 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American singer and guitarist. He was the third vocalist of the hardcore punk band Black Flag. His father, Ozzie Cadena, was co-founder of Savoy Records.

Career

December 1980 Cadena singer of Black Flag, after the band had separated from his unreliable predecessor Ron Reyes. During his first year on tour its rough, hoarse voice became a more in hardcore punk often imitated vocal style with high recognition value. After one year, Cadena however, decided that he wanted to play guitar. This idea was so far the only guitarist in the band, Greg Ginn, but not particularly excited because he thought Black Flag do not need more than a guitar player.

After 1983, he left the band after the album Damaged, he joined the band DC3. Before, during and after his stopover in Black Flag, Cadena was member of the bands Redd Kross, Twisted Roots and Ella and the Blacks ( a band he co-founded ). In 1985, he appeared as a guest musician for Hüsker Dü on their album Zen Arcade.

Lately Cadena played with the band The Misfits her tour 25th band anniversary and played guitar on the album Project 1950. He is still a member of the band, along with Jerry Only (the only residual founding member of the Misfits ) and ROBO (also a former member of Black Flag ). In the latest album by the Misfits, which was released in October 2011, Cadena was involved both in songwriting and in the vocal parts.

Furthermore Cadena plays lead guitar since 2006 in the punk rock supergroup Osaka Popstar, along with Jerry Only, Marky Ramone, John Cafiero and Ivan Julian. The band released in 2006 their only album so far Osaka Popstar and the American Legends of Punk.
