DF-25

The Dongfeng 25 (DF -25) is a mobile, land-based medium range ballistic missile of the People's Republic of China.

Development

The development of the DF -25 began in the 1980s. In the 1990s, the program was shut several times. Surprisingly, the first missiles were delivered for testing in 2000 to the People's Liberation Army. Even then remained much further development in the dark. The full operational combat readiness was achieved probably 2005. Outside of China is known about the DF -25 only slightly. First pictures and descriptions published in 2007.

Technology

The DF- 25 is a two-stage solid-propellant rocket that uses the first two drive stages of CSS -9 ICBM and a new warhead section for conventional warheads. The control is effected by means of an inertial navigation platform coupled with a GPS. As a function of the firing distance precision (CEP) of 100-300 meters (m) is achieved.

DF -25 rocket is located in a take-off and transport container, which is installed on the truck WS2500 10x8. The system is road mobile and therefore difficult to locate, making a preventive control is very difficult. There is a minimum response time of the trip reaches up to the rocket launching from 10-15 minutes. With the mobile system, the missile can be launched directly into the base or on the road.

The missile can be equipped with up to 2,000 kg conventional warhead. A nuclear assembly is not designed for the DF -25. Depending on the load a different range is achieved. With a payload of 1,000 kg, the DF -25 has a range of up to 3,000 km. With the full payload of 2,000 kg, the range is 1,700 km.

Status

The DF -25 has been designed for use in the Asian region (India, Russia, Taiwan, Vietnam and Korea). Further application areas are presumably targets in the South China Sea. With the DF- 25, it is to occupy the islands in this area (eg the Spratly Islands and the Senkaku islands ) within a short time with a massive fire possible with territorial disputes.
