The Dhammayangyi temple in Bagan was built under King Narathu in 1170 as an atonement for the murder of his father Alaungsithu and is similar in its architecture strongly the Ananda Temple. It is located about a kilometer southeast of Old Bagan.

The temple layout follows a Greek cross. The roofs and terraces on the central one-story cube are strongly inclined, so that the impression of a pyramid is formed. In the four cardinal directions Corridors are built out. The masonry is of the highest quality. The current as a cruel builder Narathu left, so the legend goes, the masons executed when he was able to force a needle between the bricks.

The inner of the two whorls is bricked. In the western porch two Buddha statues sitting next to each other. Perhaps here the historical Buddha Siddhartha Gautama is shown together with the incoming fifth Buddha Metteya.
