Dhankuta District

Dhankuta is one of the 75 districts in Nepal. It lies with its main town, Dhankuta in the Koshi Zone.

Geography and vegetation

The 891 km ² large district located in the eastern part of Nepal in the foothills of the Himalayas. The amount ranges from about 300m to 2500m. His neighbors are in western district Bhojpur and Udayapur, Sunsari and Morang districts in the south. In the east, Dhankuta borders the districts Panchthar and Terhathum, and in the north to the district Sankhuwashabha. The vegetation zones in the district range from sub-tropical Sal forests along the rivers Tamor and Arun, to coniferous forests of the temperate zone high mountain ridges that mark the watershed between the two rivers. Among the most important crops include maize, rice and sorghum, and citrus fruits, cauliflower, cabbage, ginger and proliferated in recent years, tea. A well-preserved forest spreads out along a ridge line on the northwest side of the main town of Dhankuta with rhododendron and pine trees.

Population

According to the census, the district had in the year 2011 163.412 inhabitants and the population density was 186.8 persons / km ². The largest ethnic groups in the district are the Chetri and the Tamang, the Limbu, the Rai and the Brahmins and the Magar. The majority of the population is engaged in agriculture.

Traffic

Through the district runs in a north -south direction of the Koshi Highway.
