Dhirendranath Ganguly

Dhirendranath Ganguly ( also briefly Dhiren Ganguly, Bengali: ধীরেন্দ্রনাথ গঙ্গোপাধ্যায়, Dhirendranath Gangopadhyay; short ধীরেন্দ্রনাথ গাঙ্গুলী, Dhirendranath Ganguli, born March 26, 1893 in Kolkata, † November 18, 1978 ) was an Indian film director and actor. He is one of the pioneers of the Bengali film.

Dhirendranath Ganguly was at Madan Theatres, before 1921, Nitish Chandra Laharry founded the Indo- British Film Company. In the very same year she had a great commercial success with the comedy Bilet Pherat in which Ganguly plays the main role. The film is about a Bengal, who returns after a stay in England in his home and with his " Westernized " Views annoying his family.

1923 broke the film company apart and Ganguly went to Hyderabad, where he founded his new company Lotus Film Company and continue making films. In 1928 he returned to Kolkata. He then worked as an actor and director until the late 1940s.

1976 Dhirendranath Ganguly was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
