Dhrystone

Dhrystone is the name of a general test program ( benchmark) to compare the performance of different computer or compiler.

The output of the calculation will be performed in " Dhrystone Instructions Per Second ", often the unit " Dhrystone MIPS ", or " DMIPS " is used for a million.

More details

The Dhrystone test was developed in 1984 by Reinhold Weicker. The benchmark ( computer ) contains only integer operations, his name is therefore a pun on the then very popular floating-point benchmark Whetstone (English wet = wet, dry = dry).

Like most benchmarks consists of standard Dhrystone code, and his focus is on string operations. The program is strongly influenced by hardware and software design, compiler, linker, code optimization, cache and integer data types.
