Diakovce

Diakovce ( until 1927 slovak " Deakovce "; Hungarian Deáki ) is a municipality in Okres Šaľa within the Nitriansky kraj in Slovakia, with about 2,300 inhabitants.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Slovak Danube lowland, four kilometers southwest of the city Šaľa.

History

The village was mentioned in writing in a document as Wag for the first time in 1002. It was a royal dedication of the territory of the abbey Pannonhalma. This was the Middle Ages and in modern times until 1848 and until 1945 the ruler of the largest owner in today's municipal area. 1090 can be located in a Benedictine monastery situated. The oldest building is the church, whose origins lie in the 11th century. 1228 the Romanesque church of the Virgin Mary was built to the original chapel, 1872-75 huge remodeled.

Until 1919 the town was in the Pressburg county within the Kingdom of Hungary and came afterwards to the newly formed Czechoslovakia. 1938-1945 it belonged on the basis of the First Vienna Award again to Hungary.

While in the past, the population employed in farming, now the majority in the industrial and service sector operates. In the village there is a thermal spa.
