Dialog (online database)

Dialogue, a subsidiary of the American company ProQuest, is a host for online databases that are favored taken from information brokers to complete, but also offers products for end-users to. Dialogue is the global leader and one of the most important hosts of the USA. Due to the strong competition of the market share in the German-speaking countries is low.

History

Dialogue was founded in 1965 by Lockheed and sold in 1972 and is considered the first commercial online service at all.

Since its inception, the owners changed several times. In early 2000 the dialog Corporation were sold by the then owner MAID to the Canadian conglomerate The Thomson Corporation. There it was settled in the principal company Thomson Legal & Regulatory. 2001 acquired the Thomson Corporation NewsEdge, a real-time news provider, and incorporated it in a dialog. Mid-2008 dialogue by Thomson Reuters was sold to ProQuest.

Organization

The headquarters of dialog is located in Cary, North Carolina. Of the four locations, Boston, Mountain View (California ), Bern and London from the computer operation is ensured. With 1,200 databases of services and products dialogue, dialogue Profound, Dialog Data Star, Dialog NewsEdge and Dialog Intelliscope dialogue draws on a total data volume of about 15 terabytes in approximately 1.4 billion records.

Dialogue is not based on their own information content, but cooperates with database producers, the former primarily sister companies from the Thomson group.
