Diamante, Calabria

Diamante is a coastal town in the province of Cosenza in the Calabria region in Italy with 5088 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Diamante located 78 km north of Cosenza on the western coast of Calabria. Tourism is the main source of income of residents, other sources of income are fishing and the production of candied lemon peel.

The neighboring communities are Belvedere Marit Timo, Buonvicino, Grisolia and Maierà.

History

Diamante belonged in the 15th century for a possession of the Neapolitan royal family Carafa.

Attractions

Among the oldest buildings include a tower, which was constructed in 1500 near the mouth of Corvino. The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the 17th century, one of the faithful dear Madonna. Particularly well known is the place for its murals, the murals, which were designed in 1981 by around 80 artists. In 1986, she was complemented by writers and poets, with texts.
