Diamond Jubilee Concert

The Diamond Jubilee Concert was a concert on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee ( Diamond Jubilee) of Queen Elizabeth II took place on June 4, 2012. Venue was the place outside Buckingham Palace in London. The concert was one of the highlights of the Diamond Jubilee Weekend, the main celebrations of the anniversary. Ten years earlier, two concerts took place at the same location, the Prom at the Palace and the Party at the Palace.

The concert

Organizers of the concert were the British Broadcasting Corporation and Take That singer Gary Barlow, who was two years engaged in the planning of this event. 10,000 free tickets were available to the interested parties could apply between February 7 and March 2, online or by mail. After the deadline, the cards were raffled. Overall arrived 1.2 million job applications.

The concert was part of the four-day main celebrations between the 2nd and 5th of June. It took place on Monday, the 4th of June, which had been declared a non-working day. The artists performed on a designed by Mark Fisher on stage with a canopy that had been built up around the Victoria Memorial in front of the palace. For the Diamond Jubilee Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber had composed the song Sing, which was first performed by a choir with singers from different Commonwealth countries as part of the concert. The composing of the song was the subject of the BBC documentary Gary Barlow: On Her Majesty 's Service, which was broadcast on 3 June on BBC One.

Before the concert, the cardholder had the opportunity to take in the palace garden, a picnic for themselves. They were given a basket of eatables given had been compiled by Heston Blumenthal and the royal chef Mark Flanagan. The Queen appeared in the second half of the concert, while Prince Charles and other members of the royal family watched the entire concert; was not present Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who had to be admitted for a bladder infection to the hospital.

Transmission

Prior to the broadcasting unions had announced in April 2012 that they would vote on a strike on the day of the concert their members because stagnant wage negotiations with the BBC. This led to speculation that the BBC broadcast of the concert would be affected. After successful completion of the negotiations a month later, a possible strike could be averted.

The concert was broadcast on BBC One, BBC One HD and BBC Radio 2. The following day, and on June 9, the U.S. network ABC showed the highlights of the show. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation showed the concert on June 5, June 8, it was shown on BBC Entertainment.

In German-speaking countries, the concert was broadcast live from hr1 transmitted in the broadcast " lounge " with Daniella builder and on SWR3 in the program " Club" with Kristian Thees and Matthias Kugler commented on the event. MDR television, television NDR and WDR television broadcast a recording of the concert delayed by two hours, here commented Peter Urban. Similarly RSI LA 2 broadcast the concert.
