Diana Ossana

Diana Lynn Ossana ( born August 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American screenwriter and film producer.

Life

Diana Lynn Ossana was born as the daughter of an Italian immigrant who came to the U.S. in 1937, in St. Louis. From 1970 to 1974 she studied at the Eastern New Mexico University, where she received her bachelor's degree in English and political science. Then she moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she lives since 1977, and founded a law firm. In 1992 she met the writer Larry McMurtry, with whom she has since than writing partner wrote several screenplays and produced.

On 13 October 1997 was published in New York a short story by Annie Proulx with the title Brokeback Mountain. Ossana was reminded McMurtry asked to also read this story and contact Proulx, in order to secure an option of writing a screenplay. Although Proulx saw no potential in the story for a film, she said. Already in 1998, the script was finished. And after Brokeback Mountain was released in 2005, he was awarded both nationally and internationally not only critical acclaim but also with several film awards. So Ossana 2006 received an Oscar nomination for Best Film and an award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Previously she was honored at the Golden Globe Awards with an award for Best Screenplay.
