Diana Wynyard

Diana Wynyard ( born January 16, 1906 in London, England; † May 13, 1964 ibid; native Dorothy Isobel Cox ) was a British actress.

Life

She began her career as an actress in 1925 at the Globe Theatre in London's West End and graduated in 1927 for two years of the Liverpool Playhouse in Co.. Her breakthrough came in 1932 on the side of Basil Rathbone on Broadway in The Devil Passes. She got a contract with MGM, she besides the three Barrymore siblings in the not necessarily historically accurate film Rasputin: The demon of Russia inserting. In the following years she played mostly well-bred ladies of high society. She received for her performance in cavalcade, the film adaptation of Noel Coward same piece on the Academy Awards 1934 nomination for Best Actress.

The subsequent films you did not bring the hoped-for breakthrough and Wynyard returned to London. For five years, she did not appear in movies. Only at the beginning of World War II, she participated in gaslight besides Adolf Wohlbrück.

Then she focused again on the stage and celebrated triumphs in the London production of Lillian Hellman's anti-Nazi drama Watch on the Rhine. In addition, she played Lady Macbeth, Gertrude was Hamlet and stood as Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing on the stage. In 1947 she had her last good movie role in the adaptation of Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband as Lady Chiltren. In her last years of life, Diana Wynyard came, who had been married from 1943 to 1947 with the director Carol Reed, again in several modern plays, so 1957 in Tennessee Williams Camino Real, 1964 in Max Frisch's Andorra.
