Diane Abbott

Diane Julie Abbott ( born September 27, 1953 in Paddington, London) in 1987 was the first black woman in the British Parliament. She is a member of the Labour Party and was proposed in 2010 as a possible successor to Gordon Brown.

The daughter of Jamaican immigrants attended the Harrow City Girls ' School and then the Newnham College, Cambridge. After her studies, she worked for the TV station Thames Television. From 1976 to 1980 she was civil servant and a journalist from 1982 to 1987. In the late 1980s, she became press officer at the Greater London Council.

1991 married Diane Abbott David Thompson, but was divorced in 1993 from him again. She has a son from this marriage.

In October 2003, she sat from the criticism of all political parties as well as the charge of hypocrisy when she announced her decision, one of the best private schools in England to send their son to the City of London School. Previously, she had the British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Harriet Harman criticized the Kronanwältin that they let their children taught in similar elitist (but government ) schools.
