Dibba

Dibba (Arabic دبا, Dibba DMG ) is a city located both in the government of Musandam in Oman and in the UAE Sharjah and Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Dibba is located in three local authorities ( wilaya ):

  • Dibba al - bay'a, in Oman. ~ 5,000 inhabitants
  • Dibba Al- Fujairah, Fujairah in (UAE). ~ 30,000 inhabitants
  • Dibba al Hisn, Sharjah (UAE). 26 395 inhabitants ( 2005)

History

During the Ridda wars ( 632-634 ) one of the battles took place in Dibba.

Dibba was in the territory of the Trucial States, (then referred to by the British as the Pirate Coast ), so that Britain was responsible for demarcating the area around Dibba. The lying in the emirate Sharjah Dibba's part in 1951 incorporated only into the emirate. Previously, the area was a recognized by Great Britain emirate Daba. The Emirate of Fujairah was recognized in 1952 as an independent emirate of the United Kingdom. The ruling family there had al- Scharqi but in 1902 their independence from Sharjah unilaterally declared.
