1,4- dichlorobutane is an organic chemical compound consisting of the group of the chloroalkanes.
Production
1,4- dichlorobutane formed during the heating of tetrahydrofuran with hydrochloric acid (HCl). The cyclic ether is tetrahydrofuran (THF) is thereby transferred to a first substitution reaction in the aliphatic 4 - chlorobutanol.
This intermediate is reacted in a further substitution reaction of 1,4- dichlorobutane.
Properties
1,4- dichlorobutane is an inflammatory colorless liquid with an aromatic odor, which is sparingly soluble in water. It has a dynamic viscosity of 1.46 mPas at 20 ° C.
Use
1,4- dichlorobutane is a starting material for nylon synthesis.
Safety
The vapors of 1,4- dichlorobutane can form (52 ° C, ignition temperature 220 ° C flash point) with air to form an explosive mixture.
